Job Description

This Nursery situated near Crawley is looking for several enthusiastic, pro-active Nursery Nurses to join their team to work 40 hours a week.  It is open Monday to Friday, from 07:00 -19:00 for 51 weeks of the year for children aged 0 months to 5 years and cater for up to 46 children a day. 

The Nursery School is situated in a Victorian House and Farmhouse with a large enclosed garden with woodlands surrounding the setting.  It provides wooden toys in a freeflow environment with a fully stocked craft trolley that the children can help themselves to.  They encourage messy play and the door to the garden is open at all times to encourage outdoor activities. Positive relationships between parents and staff are encouraged at all times to ensure they maintain a positive co-operative environment for the best interests of the children.  Extra activities include Music & Movement, Sports Lessons, Forest School, Yoga & French classes are available to all ages.  All meals are prepared on site by their own chef.

Your role will have to be flexible, and you will be responsible for 8 to 10 key children and you will need to ensure the children are given the opportunity to carry out child led activities throughout their routine using the EYFS curriculum.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Providing stimulating sensory opportunities for the babies
  • Encouraging the babies with their progress with their personal needs including weaning, crawling, walking
  • Nappy changing and potty training
  • Bottle feeding and preparing bottles (either formula or breast milk)
  • Encouraging shape & number recognition
  • Preparing the children for school (writing their own name)
  • Assisting the children with school readiness, eg: turn-taking, carpet time
  • Encouraging healthy eating and good table manners during mealtimes
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the setting
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the Setting’s policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to work within a large team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • A passion for working with the under 5’s
  • A willingness to get muddy & dirty with the children during Forest School
  • A pro-active & enthusiastic manner
  • Great communication skills both written & verbal
