Job Description

This nursery situated in Richmond is looking for a Nursery Nurse to join their team. The nursery is operational throughout the year only closing for the Bank Holidays. They are open Monday – Friday 07:30 – 18:00. They cater for up to 71 children aged between 3 months – 5 years old.

This is purpose built nursery has been operational since 2012 and is split over three floors. The Baby Room is split between two rooms on the ground floor, the Toddler Room on the first floor and Pre-School on the second floor. All rooms are large and bright and have been equipped to a high standard enabling the practitioners to develop the children’s learning to a high standard through exciting activities. There are also a further three rooms; a large room where the practitioners are able to carry out focused activities with small groups of children, a Discovery Room and a Literacy Room. The nurseries outside space enables the children to explore freely through their own interests. All children have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of extracurricular activities every week.

The position will be working within the Toddler Room with children aged 2 years – 3 years working within a team of 4 members of staff, ensuring that the Toddler Room is run to a high standard. You will be responsible for 6 Key Children and you will need to monitor their progress in line with the EYFS. The Toddler Rooms has accessible resources encouraging the children to develop their own interests and a separate Role-play area where the children can develop their imagination. The room also has their own creative area where the children can explore through Sand, Water, Painting and exciting Messy play activities.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the babies within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with the children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum at all times
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Completing regular development reports on your key children
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Providing various activities to develop their fine and gross motor skills; holding mark making tools, building with small blocks, running, climbing
  • Working together with the parents to ensure a smooth process when toilet training
  • Doing regular nappy changes
  • Providing exciting sensory activities for the children through Sand, Water and Messy Play
  • Developing the children’s communication through singing nursery rhymes and reading books

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to work well within a small team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
  • The ability to work within a large team
