Job Description

This well established nursery situated in Richmond is looking for a Nursery Nurse to join their Pre-School room. The nursery is operational 52 weeks of the year, closing for the Bank Holidays. They are open Monday – Friday 07:30 – 18:00 and cater for up to 36 children aged between 3 months – 5 years.

The nursery is situated close to the town and has a spacious setting for all the children to enjoy. They have three age appropriate rooms which enable the children to learn and develop at their own pace in line with the EYFS curriculum. They also ensure all the children’s individual needs are met and encourage them to reach their highest potential throughout. The setting has three main playrooms for each age group and another room for children aged 3 – 5 years old. They also have an outdoor play area and take the on several outings for the children to explore the different environments.

The position will be working with children aged 3-5 years old within the Pre-School Room and ensuring that the room is run to a high standard and assisting the other staff within the room. You will be responsible for 6 key children and you will need to monitor their progress and develop their learning daily.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s
  • Using Phonics on a regular basis
  • Supporting the children in their transition into school
  • Using sand play to develop their writing skills
  • Incorporating ICT into all aspects of nursery life
  • Supporting the children with recognising of names and words


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to lead a small team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
  • The ability to work within a large team
