Job Description

Nursery situated in Lewisham is looking for a Nursery Nurse to join their baby room. The nursery is operational 50 weeks of the year and is closed for a week at Christmas and the summer and Bank holidays. They are open Monday-Friday 07:30 -18:30 and cater for 105 children aged between 3 months - 5 years old.

The Nursery is situated in a converted house split into 3 rooms across two floors. The baby room caters for children aged 3 months - 18 months and has a separate sleep room, nappy changing room. The children have access to a variety of equipment which include holistic baskets, push and pull toys and a small wooden slide for their physical play. The Toddler room caters for children aged 15 month - 3 years in a main playroom which is divided into various areas that include a cosy corner, sand and water area and a role play area where the children can develop their imagination. The Pre-School room is divided into separate areas that enables a lot of opportunity for the children to explore, they provide age appropriate resources which include a role play area, messy, creative and ICT areas. All the rooms have access to an outdoor adventure garden which include a planting and digging area, outdoor classroom, sand and water play and sensory corner.

The role will be working with children ages 3 months – 18 months old within the Baby room. The room caters for up to 18 children. You will have up to 8 key children and be responsible for completing their observations, planning and monitor their development using the 3 Prime Areas of the EYFS

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP
  • Supporting the children and parents with weaning
  • Assisting the children at meal times and feeding
  • Nappy changing
  • Completing the children’s progress trackers
  • Encouraging the children to develop their independence ready for the transition to school
  • Ensuring Hygiene standards are kept to a high level at all times
  • Completing daily risk assessment indoors and out


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within the Early years setting
  • The ability to work in a team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and Safeguarding
  • Experience with working with the under twos
  • Great verbal and communication skills
