Job Description

Nursery situated in Mitcham are currently looking for a dedicated Nursery Nurse to join their Pre-School Room. The nursery is operational 50 weeks of the year and is closed for a week at Christmas and summer and Bank Holidays. They are open Monday-Friday, 08:00 -18:00 and cater for up to 28 children aged between 3 months - 5 years old.

The Nursery is situated in a converted house which is split into 4 rooms across two floors. The Baby Room caters for children aged 3 months - 18 months and has a separate sleep room, nappy changing room and milk kitchen. The children have access to a variety of equipment which include holistic baskets, push and pull toys, sand, water and small construction toys. The Toddler Room caters for children aged 15 months - 2 years in a large main playroom which is split into different areas that include a role play area where the children can develop their imagination. The Nursery Room caters for children aged 2 - 3 years and has its own bathroom and changing areas and access to an indoor climbing frame with a small slide. The Pre-School Room is divided into separate areas that include a role play area, messy, creative and ICT areas. All the rooms have access to an outdoor garden which include a planting and digging area, outdoor classroom, sand and water play and sensory corner. The children also go on regular outing to the local park.

The role will be working with children aged 3 - 5 years old within the Pre-School Room. Which caters for up to 12 children. You will have up to 5 key children and be responsible for completing their observations, planning and monitoring their development using the EYFS Curriculum

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS Curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP
  • Assisting and supporting the children at meal times and self-serving
  • Preparing the children for the transition to school and encouraging independence
  • Developing the children’s writing, listening and ICT skills
  • Completing the children’s progress trackers
  • Encouraging the children to develop their independence ready for the transition to school
  • Ensuring hygiene standards are kept to a high level at all times
  • Completing daily risk assessments indoors and out
  • Liaising with local schools to ensure the developmental information of the children are correctly transferred

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years recent experience within the Early Years setting
  • The ability to work in a team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS Curriculum and Safeguarding
  • Experience working with Pre-School aged children
  • Great communication skills both written and verbal
