Job Description

This nursery situated in Brentford is looking for a Nursery Assistant to join their team. The nursery is operational 51 weeks of the year, closing for all the Bank Holidays and Christmas break. The nursery is open Monday – Friday 09:00 – 16:00, and also offers an out of hours care from 16:00 – 19:00. They cater for up to 20 children aged between 3 months – 5 years old.

The setting is based within a community centre and has three age groups who share one main room which is split into different areas this includes a cosy area where they children can sit and look at books a role play area with various dressing up clothes and different materials, and a designated Pre-School room where the older children can participate activities which will prepare them for school. The nursery has a separate room which leads off the main room which has been newly opened as a sensory room. The nursery has its own pet which greets the children from his home as they arrive. They have their own kitchen area where they prepare healthy meals throughout the day as well as offering a rolling snack at 10am. All the children have free flow into their own private garden where they can climb trees, explore in the muddy kitchen and play with their friends on bikes.

The position will be working with all the age groups and with a team of 4 other members of staff which work closely with each other, ensuring that the nursery is run to a high standard. You will be responsible for 4 Key Children and need to monitor their progress in line with the EYFS and track their progress.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with the children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum at all times
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Providing various activities to develop their Physical development; crawling and walking
  • Doing regular nappy changes
  • Providing exciting sensory activities for the children
  • Assisting both children and parents with potty training
  • Running circle time focusing on the children’s language development through singing nursery rhymes

and reading books

  • Preparing the older children with the transition to school

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to work well within a small team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
  • The ability to work within a large team
