Job Description

Private nursery in Dorking are currently looking for a passionate Nursery Nurse to join their Pre-School Room. The setting is open 51 weeks of the year, 07:30-18:30 and cater for up to 52 children aged 3 months – 5 years.

The setting operates over two floors with the Babies and Toddlers on one floor and the Pre-School children on the other. They also have an enclosed outdoor area with a variety of activities including climbing frames, digging areas and cycle paths.

This full time position will be working with children aged 3 – 5 years, you will be responsible for up to 7 key children and will need to ensure strong relationships are built with both the parents and children. You must be confident in your planning and also be able to use your initiative to plan inspiring activities based on the children’s interests.

Your role will include:

  • Providing exciting activities for all the children in accordance with the EYFS Curriculum
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the Nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Preparing the children for school and ensuring a smooth transition
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s
  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum especially the Specific Areas
  • Working alongside the manager to ensure the Nursery philosophy is fulfilled
  • Preparing and serving meals
  • Washing and changing the children as required
  • Being flexible within the working practices of the setting and being prepared to help where needed


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • Great communication skills both written and verbal
  • A passion for Early Years Development
