Job Description

Nursery situated in Wandsworth is currently looking for a Nursery Nurse to join their Pre-School team. The nursery is operational 49 weeks of the year, closed for Easter and Christmas break and a week in the summer. They are open Monday to Friday 08:00 – 18:00 and cater for 15 children a day aged between 6 months – 5 years.

The nursery is situated within a one storey building and maintain a 1:3 ratio throughout the nursery, ensuring the children reach their highest potential while at the setting. They have a main playroom for all the children which is separated into three sections for each age group enabling them to learn and develop at their own pace. They also have an outdoor play area enabling the children to explore different environments.

This position will be working with children aged 3 – 5 years old within their Pre-School area working either 3 – 5 days a week 07:30 – 18:00. You must ensure all the children’s individual needs are met at all times. You will be responsible for up to 5 key children and must ensure they progress their learning by planning activities in line with their developmental stage.

Your role will include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with all children, parents and staff
  • Providing high quality care for all the children
  • Supporting all the children individual needs and dietary requirements
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Planning educational activities for all the children
  • Observing the children’s development and planning their next steps
  • Working in partnership with parents and providing feedback at the end of each day
  • Following all the nurseries policies and procedures
  • Carrying out risk assessments within the rooms and in the garden
  • Supporting children with additional needs and/or IEP’s
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Preparing the children for school
  • Assisting them with their hand-writing and support them writing their own name
  • Working with the parents using Jolly Phonics with the children


All candidates must have:

  • A minimum of an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 2 years experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to work well within a small team
  • Excellent knowledge of the EYFS and Safeguarding
  • Previous experience working with Jolly Phonics
  • Excellent communication skills
