Job Description

This nursery situated in Lewisham is looking for a Nursery Practitioner to join their Baby Room. The nursery is operational for 50 weeks of the year, closing for the bank holidays and Christmas. They are open Monday – Friday 07:30-18:30 and cater for up to 70 children aged between 3 months – 5 years old.

The nursery has been established for over 5 years and is within a purpose built building. The ages groups are split into three; 0-2 years, 2 - 3 years, 3 - 5 years. All the rooms have age appropriate resources allowing the staff to create a high level of exciting and educational activities to develop the children’s learning. The nursery has a large garden space for the children to explore freely and equipped with age appropriate resources with a separate garden area for the babies to explore. The nursery has their own on site chef who prepares home cooked meals according to the children’s individual needs.

The position will be working with children aged 3 months – 2 years old within the Baby Room team. Your responsibilities will include the day to day routine of the room and you will be responsible for 5 Key Children ensuring all their milestones are met. The Baby Room has a separate nappy changing and sleeping area. The room is a large space where the babies are encouraged to explore freely according to their individual development. All the resources are on a low level encouraging the babies to explore the resources freely developing their own interests.  There is a separate area for the children to explore creatively and enhance their senses with Sand, Water and Messy play. 

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with all children, parents and staff
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Ensuring all observations, planning and Key Children files are up to date
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Supporting children with additional needs
  • Attending parents evenings and staff meetings
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Effective team work within the Baby Room to ensure the room runs smoothly
  • Developing the children’s sensory exploration through sand, water and messy play activities
  • Using effective teaching to a high standard to develop their early communication skills through singing and reading stories
  • Introducing the children to different celebrations and cultures from around the world 
  • Developing the children’s fine and gross motor skills; walking, crawling, climbing, holding mark making tools
  • Ensuring their hygiene routines are of a high standard

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
  • The ability to work within a large team
