Nursery Practitioner needed in Twickenham

This nursery situated in Twickenham is looking for a Nursery Practitioner to join their Pre-School team. The nursery is operational all year round, closing for the bank holidays. They are open Monday – Friday 07:30-18:15 and cater for up to 70 children aged between 3 months – 5 years old.

The nursery has been established for over 25 years and is situated within two joining houses which have been converted to a large nursery. The nursery is split into three rooms, one area for each age group with Pre-School on the top floor and the Baby and Toddler Rooms on the ground floor. All the rooms have age appropriate resources allowing the staff to create a high level of exciting and educational activities to develop the children’s learning. The nursery has recently developed their garden with facilities for the children to explore including a Vegetable Patch, Mud Kitchen, Play House and designated Baby Room garden. The nursery also offer extra-curricular activities for all age groups over the week from Sports to Music classes.  The nursery has a permanent on site chef who prepares fresh home cooked meals daily according to individual dietary needs of the children.

The position will be working with children aged 3-4 years old within the Pre-School team. Your responsibilities will include the day to day routine of the room and you will be responsible for 4 Key Children ensuring all their milestones are met.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with all children, parents and staff
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Ensuring all observations, planning and Key Children files are up to date
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Supporting children with additional needs
  • Attending parents evenings and staff meetings
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Effective team work within Pre-School room to ensure the room runs smoothly
  • Developing the children’s sensory exploration through sand, water and messy play activities
  • Using effective teaching to a high standard to develop their communication skills
  • Introducing the children to different celebrations and cultures from around the world 
  • Developing the children’s fine and gross motor skills; running, developing grip of pencils etc
  • Developing their letter and number recognition
  • Preparing the Pre-School children for School
  • Improving independence by dressing themselves
  • Ensuring their hygiene routines are of a high standard
  • Helping the younger children to settle into the Pre-School age group through exciting and new activities

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
  • The ability to work within a large team
