Job Description

Nursery situated in Twickenham is currently looking for two Nursery Practitioners, one for their Baby Room and one for their Pre-School Room. The nursery is operational 51 weeks of the year, closed over the Christmas break. They are open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 18:00 and cater for up to 60 children aged between 3 months – 5 years.

The nursery is situated within a purpose built setting and they ensure all the children reach their developmental stages and provide a wide range of opportunities for the children using a variety of age appropriate activities. The setting is split over two floors with a large main playroom for the 3-5’s and three separate rooms for the under 3 year olds. They ensure each child’s home routine is considered and follow it as much as possible to ensure smooth transitions to the nursery. Children are encouraged to visit other rooms to build their friendships and social development throughout all the age groups. They also have a large garden enabling all ages to explore different environments.

One positions will be working with children aged 3 months – 18 months within their Baby Room and the other will be working with children aged 3 – 5 years old within their Pre-School Room. You will be responsible for a group of key children and must ensure all the children reach their highest potential at all times and work in partnership with the other staff within the setting.

Your role will include:

  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with children, parents and staff
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting and educational activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s
  • Ensuring routines within the room are followed
  • Support the babies with weaning and food introduction
  • Carrying out nappy changes and support toileting
  • Prepare the Pre-School children for school with more challenging activities
  • Using Jolly Phonics in Pre-School
  • Developing children’s relationships at all times to enable them to build friendships
  • Supporting the Pre-Schoolers with resolving problems themselves


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS & Safeguarding
  • Great communication skills both written and verbal
