Job Description
Nursery Assistant needed in Kensington
This nursery situated in Kensington is looking for a Nursery Assistant to join their team. The nursery is operational for 50 weeks of the year, closing over the Christmas and New Year period. They are open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 18:00. They cater for up to 16 children aged between 6 months – 5 years old.
The setting is on the ground floor level and has been open since 2011.This is a unique setting where the children of all ages interact together in one large space with a separate sleep room attached and access to the garden encouraging free flow. The nursery team thrive on providing the children a home from home environment with the care they provide as well as the activities they do with the children for example, going to the local shops and helping the staff to lay the table at meal times. The children have regular extra-curricular sessions which continues the nursery belief in benefits of physical exercise for children.
The position will be working within the team with children aged 6 months - 5 years working within a team of 5 members of staff, ensuring that the room is run to a high standard. You will be responsible for 2 Key Children and you will need to monitor their progress in line with the EYFS.
Your role will include:
- Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
- Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
- Building and maintaining good relationships with the children and parents
- Implementing the EYFS curriculum at all times
- Providing exciting activities for all the children
- Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
- Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
- Attending parent evenings and staff meetings
- Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
- Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
- Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
- Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
- Providing various activities to develop their Physical development; walking, running and climbing
- Doing regular nappy changes
- Supporting the older children in understanding the importance of hygiene when toilet training
- Providing exciting sensory activities for the children through messy play and using natural materials in treasure baskets
- Developing the children’s fine and gross motor skills; mark-making into writing, building towers, peg puzzles, shape sorters, climbing steps, developing the grip of writing tools
- Developing the children’s language and communication through singing nursery rhymes and reading books
- Introducing the children to different celebrations and cultures from around the world
- Developing the older children’s letter and number recognition
- Preparing the Pre-School children for School
- Improving independence of the older children by dressing themselves
- Ensuring their hygiene routines are of a high standard

All candidates must have:
- At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
- The ability to work well within a small team
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
- Great communication skills
- The ability to work within a large team
