Job Description

Day Nursery in Twickenham are currently seeking a Room Leader to join their Toddler Room. The nursery is operational 51 weeks of the year, closed over the Christmas break and Bank Holidays. They are open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 18:00 and cater for up to 60 children aged between 3 months – 5 years.

The nursery is situated within a purpose built building and they aim to provide a wide range of opportunities for learning in a caring and stimulating environment. The setting is split over two floors with a large main playroom for the 3-5’s along with three separate rooms for the under 3 year olds. Children are encouraged to visit other rooms to build friendships and social development throughout all the age groups.

The position will be working with children aged 18 months - 2 years within the Toddler Room ensuring that the room is run to a high standard and assisting the other staff within the room. You will be responsible for up to 5 key children and 3 other members of staff.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s
  • Managing staff effectively, ensuring ratios are maintained
  • Overseeing the professionalism of staff and students in the setting
  • Working closely with students and their supervisors, passing on your knowledge to them both practically and theoretically
  • Ensuring routines within the room are followed
  • Overseeing all children’s folders, making sure they are completed on time and to a high standard
  • Being an excellent role model for other staff members in the room

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to lead a small team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience as a Room Leader is desirable but not essential
