Job Description

This nursery situated in Kingston is looking for a Room Leader to join their Baby Room. The nursery is operational 51 weeks of the year, closed over the Christmas break. They are open Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 18:30 and cater for 100 children aged between 3 months – 5 years old.


The setting is set over two floors and has three main rooms for each age group, one for the Baby room which has a separate sleep room. A Toddler room which is open plan and a Pre-school room which is based on the ground floor enabling the children to free-flow between the garden and the room. Each room has age appropriate equipment and dedicated areas for the children to learn and develop at their own pace.


The position will be based with children aged 3 months – 18 months old in their Baby Room. You will need to ensure the room is run to a high standard and the children are reaching their highest potential throughout their development.


Your role will include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with all the children, parents and staff
  • Ensuring the daily routine is followed
  • Providing high quality care for all the children
  • Ensuring the safety of the children by carrying out regular risk assessments
  • Following the EYFS curriculum at all times
  • Planning exciting and educational activities daily
  • Observing the children’s development and planning their next steps
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures
  • Supporting other staff and students within the room
  • Managing a team and ensuring all staff’s paperwork is up to date
  • Participating in parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting parents with weaning
  • Bottle feeding the younger children
  • Supporting the crawlers and early walkers develop
  • Carrying out nappy changes
  • Developing their hand-eye co-ordination

All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 1 years experience within an Early Years setting
  • Excellent knowledge of the EYFS curriculum
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding procedures
  • The ability to lead a team
  • Excellent communication skills
