Job Description

Outstanding Day Nursery situated in Wimbledon is looking for a Room Leader to join their Baby & Toddler Rooms. The nursery is operational 51 weeks of the year, closed over the Christmas break. They are open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 19:00 and cater for up to 36 children aged between 1 – 5 years.

The setting is based within a refurbished community hall with a Baby Room for up to 6 children aged 1-2 years and a large open plan room for the 2-5 year olds. The main room has a large stage which is used for small group activities and quiet time and also has direct access to an enclosed garden with climbing equipment and a trampoline to encourage the childrens physical development.

The position will be working with children aged 2-3 years within the Toddler area and also the Baby Room as a Room Leader, ensuring that each room is run to a high standard and assisting other members of staff in the rooms. You will be responsible for up to 8 key children within the Toddler Room and will need to ensure that all observations and folders are completed on a regular basis.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring nappy changing, weaning and feeding routines are followed in accordance with parents wishes
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s
  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Supporting other members of staff within the rooms
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Carrying out regular observations and planning next steps for your key children
  • Working in the Baby Room in the afternoons with one other member of staff and up to 6 children
  • Ensuring that records are kept up to date and folders completed in a timely manner


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • A proactive approach and confident in completing learning journals and planning next steps
  • The ability to lead a small team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Great communication skills
