Job Description

Well established Nursery are currently seeking an experienced Room Leader to join their team in Deptford. The Setting is operational 51 weeks of the year, Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 18:00 and caters for up to 84 children aged between 3 months and 5 years.

The Nursery is situated within a large purpose built building and has four main age based rooms as well as a large enclosed outdoor area to promote free flow play and regularly take the children on trips to the local park.

The position will be working with children aged 3 months to 2 years within the Baby Room, ensuring that the room is run to a high standard and assisting the other staff within the room. You will be responsible for up to 8 key children and will need to ensure that all folders and observations are completed and kept up to date on a regular basis as well as maintaining ratios within the room.

Your role will include:

  • Ensuring staff are keeping accurate and up to date records
  • Being an excellent role model to others in the room
  • Ensuring all the children reach their highest potential throughout their development
  • Caring for children recognising and catering for their individuality and in accordance with the settings policies and procedures
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with children and parents
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum focusing on the prime areas of learning
  • Carrying out under two checks
  • Encouraging the children and motivating their learning
  • Providing exciting activities for all the children
  • Exercising a general duty of care for work colleagues and to be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment
  • Working alongside the Manager and staff to ensure that the vision, philosophy and objectives of the nursery are fulfilled
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy areas and ensuring books, toys and equipment are clean and in good order


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Previous SENCO experience
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and Safeguarding
  • Great communication skills both written and verbal
