Job Description

This well-established nursery situated in Ealing is currently looking for a Room Leader/Third in Charge to join their busy Baby Room. The nursery is operational 51 weeks of the year, closed over the Christmas break. They are open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 18:00 and cater for up to 47 children aged between 6 months – 5 years old.

The nursery is situated within a purpose built setting and the Baby Room is all based on the ground floor. They ensure all the children have a caring and secure environment at all times. Each room is age appropriate based on the children age and stage of development. They encourage all children to learn and develop at their own pace and provide age appropriate activities throughout. The Baby Room ensures the children develop the Prime Areas and they also enjoy a lot of Sensory play. They have a dedicated garden and enjoy learning about outdoors too.

The position will be working with children aged 6 months to 2 years old within the Baby Room and ensuring that the room is run to a high standard and assisting the other staff within the room. You will be responsible for up to 5 key children, while also supporting the other staff with their key worker responsibilities. You will need to ensure the room is safe for all the children and ensure all the staff understand their own responsibilities. You would need to step up if the Manager or Deputy is away.

Your role will include:

  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with children, parents and staff
  • Providing high quality care for the children within the setting
  • Implementing the EYFS curriculum
  • Providing exciting and educational activities for all the children
  • Completing observations, planning and any additional paperwork for your key children
  • Assisting and supporting other staff within the room
  • Discussing the children’s progress with their parents or guardians
  • Following the nurseries policies and procedures throughout the setting
  • Completing risk assessments within the room and the garden
  • Ensuring the children have a safe and stimulating environment
  • Attending parent and staff meetings
  • Supporting children with additional needs and IEP’s
  • Ensuring routines within the room are followed
  • Support the babies with weaning and food introduction
  • Carrying out nappy changes
  • Developing the children’s mobility and encouraging crawling and walking
  • Supporting them with the separation from their parents
  • Offering advice to staff and parents regarding the children’s development


All candidates must have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • At least 2 years relevant experience within an Early Years setting
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS & Safeguarding
  • Great communication skills both written and verbal
  • Previous experience with Babies would be desired but not essential
